INTERACTIVE VIDEO
FELLOW MAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SUPPLIES
I created this video in Adobe Premiere Pro. It is my first time working with this software, so I was unable to create a video with the complexity I might have hoped for, but I learned so much by working with the software. The pictures and video used for this project were taken in Honduras by the Fellow Man International staff as they traveled from village to village delivering school supplies to all of the villages in our service area. Many children in Honduras do not attend school because their parents are unable to afford even the most basic of supplies such as pencils and paper. Every year, generous donors give money allowing us to purchase the necessary school supplies required for enrollment in the public education system, ensuring no child is denied the opportunity to attend school.
In Adobe Premiere Pro, I imported my PNG logo to use at the beginning of the video. I also used a 1 second, tech sound effect which was synchronized with the appearance of my logo just for fun. I downloaded the sound effect from audioblocks.com. Then, I imported photographs and a video clip from the Fellow Man International, 2019 school supply, distribution activities which help the school children living in our service area. The activities took place last March. I chose a royalty-free audio track from audioblocks.com called, "Upbeat and Happy" for background music in this video. I used the length of the audio track to determine the length of my video in this case. I dragged and dropped each photo and video clip into the timeline. I used both slide editors and the right click "speed/duration" menu to determine the length of time each photo or video clip would play. Additionally, I used the keyboard shortcut CTRL-D to place video transitions between each photo, text effect or video clip. Because I did not want the audio associated with the video clip to be heard, I selected the video clip, right clicked and then selected unlink. This allowed me to delete the audio associated with the video. By doing this, the only auditory stimulus for the viewer is the music file I incorporated which plays throughout the video. To adjust the music to the proper level, I right clicked on the audio file in the timeline and then used the "Audio Gain" menu to input a level of -10 dB.
I attempted to add a link to my video, but unfortunately YouTube would not allow me to add the link to our organization's "donate" page. I did add a card to the end of my video in which there was a poll asking the viewer if they would be willing to donate $5 to purchase school supplies. The viewer had three options from which to select an answer. They were: 1) yes, 2) no and 3) unsure.

MAYER'S PRINCIPLES
Because Adobe Premiere Pro is new software for me, I focused on mastering a few technical skills to create this video. I may not have focused as much on Mayer's Principles of Multimedia Learning as required for this project. However, I did change the way I usually design videos to educate our donors as to our current activities. Instead of using written text in conjunction with narration, I opted to follow Mayer's case in favor of the belief that modality is important. I followed the recommendations which follow the dual-channel hypothesis. Knowing that people use two information processing channels, auditory and visual and ever-mindful that those channels can become overloaded because of the limited capacity of working memory, I chose to place text against a black background which equaled one visual stimulus and one auditory stimulus in the form of background music. Then, I transitioned to a picture of our activities so that the viewer did not have to process written text with a picture simultaneously, potentially running the risk of overloading the visual channel.
